Today, Dave made lunch. Not just something simple. He made italian sausages, meatballs, spaghetti (angel hair - my favorite), salad and garlic bread. He invited his mother and stepfather to join us. Michael brought his best friend Nick. (Sami was off at a friend's house)
I have to tell you that one of the greatest pleasures is to have my family all at a meal. (Well today - almost all) Not normally a weekday meal, where the babysitting kids might be here. A Sunday or a Saturday meal. One that takes forever to cook, you eat it all together and no one is in a hurry to leave the table for practice or work. The kind where you find out about their weeks, friends, girlfriends, desires and hopes. The kind where you decide if you are entering the coast guard in the reserves or active duty. The kind where you discuss the cost of college and recommend ways to earn more money. The kind where you yell/discuss (LOL) hair length and lack of regular chores being done around here.
Those kind of lunches make my life liveable. Make it worth the problems of motherhood worth it. The rewards are all there. The smiles, the laughter, the anger or happiness. You never can tell what it will be but whatever happens, we are together as a family. Thank God for dinner today. It is probably the blessing of my week.
